Ole Miss is one of a string of teams mentioned as a potential landing spot for Tulane transfer running back Makhi Hughes. The 2022 recruit entered the portal yesterday, drawing attention as currently the No.3 ranked transfer.
Colorado and Duke are two other teams mentioned by On3's Pete Nakos as early teams to watch. The Blue Devils have just lost their leading rusher to the portal, Star Thomas, who will not feature in the Gator Bowl against the Rebels.

Ole Miss looking for at least one more running back
Ole Miss has added one running back from the transfer portal in Kewan Lacy from Missouri. Despite having potential, Lacy is still inexperienced, coming in with one season under his belt and just 23 carries in 2024.
He comes into a room with four-star 2025 recruit Shekai Mills-Knight, a player the Ole Miss staff is excited about. Domonique Thomas had 41 carries last season for the Rebels, the only returning running back.
The running back room lacks experience, which is why a player such as Tulane's Makhi Hughes would be a boost for Lane Kiffin. Hughes was injured for the whole of his true freshman season in 2022. However, he rushed for 2,779 yards and 22 TDs in his two full seasons, including 1,000-yard seasons.
Ole Miss has missed out on a couple of running backs over the last week, including Justice Haynes and Fluff Bothwell, which shows that Kiffin wants at least one more player in the room for 2025.
Duke's Star Thomas is another option, but Makhi Hughes would be the top option, consistently performing well for the Green Wave over the last two seasons..
