Ole Miss land their first running back from the transfer portal, but will there be more?

Ole Miss landed a running back from the transfer portal late last night, and it wasn't one we may have expected. Missouri transfer Kewan Lacy committed to the Rebels after just one season with the Tigers.

Lacy, a four-star recruit from the 2024 class, rushed for 104 yards from 23 carries as a true freshman. He is the first running back to transfer into Oxford, but how many more will head coach Lane Kiffin bring in before next season?

Is Lane Kiffin set to follow the same model as last season at RB?

Last season, it didn't go well for Ole Miss at the running back position. After losing star running back Quinshon Judkins to the transfer portal, Lane Kiffin decided that several running backs competing for snaps were the best direction.

Aside from Henry Parrish Jr.'s early success before SEC games, the running back room struggled to move the ball. Yes, the offensive line did not help, but they needed more creativity when gaps were closed, with the offense going for power running straight down the gut. We will leave the Ulysses Bentley IV debate out of this.

The Rebels have brought in a talented 2025 recruit in Shekai Mills-Knight, who has the talent to feature this season. Currently, they have just Domonique Thomas returning, who saw more than ten carries, so the room is bare. Does adding Missouri transfer Kewan Lacy solve many problems?

It's an answer we can't give, but with the inexperience in the room, it's likely Lane Kiffin still wants more running backs. How many is the question? Will he go over the top and add three or four more, or does he add one or two experienced heads, such as Justice Haynes?

We will see how Kiffin goes about it over the next few weeks, but whatever happens, it can't be as bad as last season, and there is more excitement around the room with the addition of Kewan Lacy.
