Ole Miss must wish for further chaos in Week 14, which could help them advance to the College Football Playoffs

It may be wishful thinking, but anything is possible after what we witnessed in Week 13.

When Ole Miss trudged off the field after going down 24-17 to Florida, their playoff hopes looked to have sunk in the Swamp. However, unknown to them, chaos across the Week 13 schedule was about to strike, giving them more than a 4% chance to make the top 12.

Let me be clear: I'm not expecting anything but the favorites to get their job done in rivalry week. Though the rebels have a small window in, all it takes is for what we saw in week 13 to happen again, but this time with an Ole Miss win.

Ole Miss could watch everything fall into place on Saturday and beyond

The AP Poll may give us a strong indication of where the College Football Playoff committee could rank Ole Miss. The feeling is that they may land at No. 15. If that is the case, the window is slightly ajar for the Rebels, with the CFP on the other side.

Again, you could argue the Rebels don't deserve a spot anyway, and I'd agree, but here we are. Getting in is significantly more complicated if they are ranked below 15.

What would need to happen in Week 14 for Ole Miss to jump up three spots if they are ranked No.15?

Clemson beats South Carolina
Arizona State beats Arizona
Auburn beats Alabama

Then two of the three below teams lose:

California beats SMU
Purdue beats Indiana
Vanderbilt beats Tennessee
Syracuse beats Miami

Championship weekend:

ACC Championship Game: Clemson beats SMU
Big 12 Championship Game: Arizona State beats Colorado/BYU/Iowa State

If the ACC plays out like above, SMU and Miami will drop below Ole Miss. If Tennessee and Alabama lost, they would drop below Ole Miss, meaning a No.11 ranking. Four conference champions would be ahead of the Rebels, meaning it would not matter where the fifth conference champion is ranked, likely the best Group of Five champions.

Indiana will likely beat Purdue, so if Ole Miss wants in, it will play out as above. If Boise State keeps winning, they will be ranked No. 12, but all five conference champions will be above.

I understand it's a very long shot, but there is a way in. First, Ole Miss must handle Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, then fingers crossed for carnage on Saturday.
