After Tom Herman, who had a 6-16 record in his season and a half at Florida Atlantic, was relieved of his duties, the Owls are now searching for a new head coach. Several names have been mentioned, with former NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis the latest.

One name that could be the most likely to be appointed is Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Wes Jr. The young playcaller worked under current Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin while at Florida Atlantic from 2018 to 2019.

Charlie Weis Jr. could be on the Florida Atlantic radar

Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. has faced some criticism this season, but during his nearly three seasons as OC, he has been one of the best play-callers in the nation.

Working under Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss has worked wonders, fast-tracking him to a potential head coaching job, especially in the Group of 5. There will likely be some big names in the conversation, but it would be a surprise not to see Weis get at least an interview.

In 2023, Ole Miss had a top 15 offense in total yards per game (461.9) and a top 15 in points per game (35.1). The Rebels are second in the nation in yards per game through ten games this season (539.6) and fourth in points per game (40.7).

Stats like this are impressive, but at 31, is it too early for Weis to be considered? His connections with the program give him a foot up, but he would need to impress at the interview stage to have a chance.
