One down, four more to go for Ole Miss and their quest to make it to the first 12-team college football playoffs. Each game gets more difficult as they head across the border to face Arkansas in Fayetteville, a place they haven't won since 2008.
The Rebels shook off what Lane Kiffin described as nerves from expectations in the first half against Oklahoma. The second-half performance was what we expected from this team: good, physical defense while spreading the ball around on offense at speed.
Defensive tackle and key defensive contributor Walter Nolen has been upgraded to probable for the game, alongside tight ends Caden Prieskorn and Dae'Quan Wright. The Rebels are still sweating on wide receiver Tre Harris and offensive lineman Nate Kalepo.
The key battle in this game is whether Pete Golding's defense can contain the Arkansas rushing game, headed by dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green. Star running back Ja'Quinden Jackson is out, but freshman Braylen Russell put up 175 rushing yards in his absence against Mississippi State. The Rebels are allowing just 83.9 rushing yards per game, but they did give up their most this season to running backs against Oklahoma (109).
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Lane Kiffin wants to see improvement from the offensive line, especially in the run game. Henry Parrish and Ulysses Bentley struggled against the Sooners, averaging 1,9 yards per rush combined. The run game will need to operate better for the offense to function, which will help towards a victory.
An early kick-off time may help Ole Miss a little, as the atmosphere will be less hostile. However, all road games are challenging in the SEC, and if the Rebels continue to be the most penalized team in the nation, they might come up short in this one.
