Pete Golding might have just made his move behind the curtains.

Fresno State also claims that having receipts against Ole Miss's tampering allegation should have been Golding's final straw.

The Ole Miss head coach took the higher road when Swinney accused him of tampering, but the increasing investigation pressure from the NCAA, and then the Feesno State claims, might have just pushed his buttons.

it was just yesterday that fans wanted Golding to also release the receipts that he might have against the rumored tampering from Lane Kiffin for his Ole Miss players.

Seems like Golding, or whoever had it, just handed the NCAA a smoking gun.

Lane Kiffin the next one caught in tampering crosshairs

On Jan. 30, the NCAA opened a formal investigation against LSU, as reported by The Athletic's Matt baker.

"College sports’ new enforcement arm has opened its first publicly known investigation into a big-name program: LSU," The Athletic reported on Jan. 30.

"The College Sports Commission (CSC) has started an inquiry into the Tigers over a potential violation of rules related to unreported player compensation, according to a Jan. 15 email obtained Friday by The Athletic through a public records request."

Ole Miss fans were practically screaming Kiffin's name when confidential term sheets and NIL contracts were leaked in the Rebels' locker room.

It was the reason half of the established players who had already announced their return to Ole Miss walked out on Pete Golding with just hours left in the transfer portal closing.

Kiffin gained four recruits from Ole Miss after that, with Edge Princewill Umanmielen being the highlight of his portal class.

“The College Sports Commission is investigating whether a member of one of your institution’s sports teams failed to report one or more third-party Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals in accordance with applicable rules,” the CSC’s head of investigations, Katie B. Medearis, wrote to LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry, per Baker.

“As previously indicated, the CSC has reached out to several schools to inform them of investigations into unreported NIL deals,” a CSC spokesperson said. “We will not comment further at this time.”

That, plus LSU being a favorite to land Washington's Desmond Howard. Sam Leviatt had already committed to the Tigers at that point.

If it was Golding who made the call, it was the best move he could have played in the situation he was in.

Sitting around doing nothing when the NCAA plans to make you the scapegoat demanded tampering from other schools be brought to light.

We'll see if the NCAA still wants to paint only Golding as the fall guy.
