Ole Miss basketball returned to winning ways on Wednesday, beating Texas 72-69. It ended a three-game losing streak after starting SEC play hot, going 4-0.
The Rebels' performance wasn't vintage, but winning in those situations shows a team's character. Chris Beard will need his team to show that again and much more as they welcome Auburn to the Pavilion on Saturday.
The Tigers are the No.1 ranked team in the country, taking the top spot after week 12. They have lost just one game out of the 20 played, losing 84-78 to Duke, currently the No.2 ranked team.
Looking at the roster, it's hard not to consider all of them dangerous, as the team is well-rounded. However, forward Johni Broome leads the team in points (18.2), rebounds (11.2), and assists (3.0). Chad Baker-Mazara and Miles Kelly are also dangerous players.
Nobody is going to bat an eyelid if Ole Miss doesn't win this game. However, if they can keep it close, it will look great in the eyes of the NCAA Tournament selection committee. The Rebels have already shown they can win as a big underdog, beating Alabama on the road, who are ranked No.4.
The game is being shown on ESPN, so more people than usual will be watching it. This shows how far Coach Beard has taken the Rebels in such a short time.
