Ole Miss basketball will play its annual "Throwback at the Tad Pad" game, taking on South Alabama at the Tad Smith Coliseum. The former home of Ole Miss Basketball before it transitioned into the Sandy and John Black Pavilion, the Rebels hope to stay unbeaten and clean up areas from the Grambling win.
The Rebels sneaked a two-point win after poor three-point shooting (6 from 26) and poor rebounding. The latter was the Rebels Achilles heal in big games last season, and it resurfaced again against the Tigers on Friday, outrebounded 39-33. Head coach Chris Beard was more frustrated with that area, knowing it needs to improve going forward.
The team will need to improve in the above areas, coming up against a South Alabama team that will punish Ole Miss if they play sloppy. The Jaguars are a decent rebounding team, with a 50.7% success rate. The Rebels are a tad better, at 51%, so it's a good enough challenge for Chris Beard's team to get it right.
It's not a massive concern with just two games of the season gone, but these non-conference games can help shape the team before conference games start. Ole Miss has several new players on the roster, so connections have yet to be formed.
The Tad Pad will be bouncing for the game, one of the most popular games of the season. Can The Rebels clean up some of the areas of concern?
