The entire hype train of the Eagles potentially drafting De'Zhaun Stribling for the biggest Ole Miss reunion in the NFL entirely eclipsed the actual Rebel reunion that happened with the San Francisco 49ers picking Stribling at No. 33.
Stribling once again shares the wide receiver room with former Ole Miss player Jordan Watkins, whom the Niners selected last year in Round 4.
De'Zhaun Stribling on former Rebel Jordan Watkins
Stribling revealed how his past conversations with Watkins have been simply surface-level, because by the time he transferred to Ole Miss, Watkins was already off preparing for his pro career.
"Yeah, I talked to J-Wat a little bit since I've been here at Ole Miss. But that was really it, kind of surface level for the most part," Stribling said.
The Rebel reunion might just be the key Stribling needs for a breakout year. With Ole Miss, Watkins was only one of the seven Rebels to ever record a 200-yard receiving game. Stribling was not one of the remaining six as he never unlocked that feat; the most Stribling made was 122 against Georgia in the Playoffs.
That said, Stribling brings all the tools the Niners need in their wide receiver. With Watkins and Mike Evans, the WR could bring out that potential under Shanahan's pro guidance.
"You know, just really try not to put too many expectations on anything, just kind of getting in, competing at a high level, getting on the field early and just contributing to the team however I can," Stribling added when asked about his dream NFL career.
Injuries are the only constant in the NFL, and whenever any situation like that pops up, Stribling needs to be ready to make the most out of it.
