Lane Kiffin tried to throw in another wrench in Ole Miss's CFP run, and as usual, Pete Golding isn't letting him.
The only difference this time is that even Ole Miss players are bashing Kiffin for trying to steal the Rebels' spotlight every chance he gets.
Kiffin calling back his LSU troops with the transfer portal period in full swing right after Ole Miss won the Sugar Bowl was a classic Kiffin move to get all the attention on him.
Pete Golding on dual-loyalty mess
However, Golding quickly shut down the mess with a simple explaination to media.
The Rebels head coach stated how assistants working double jobs during this period is completely normal, and at the end of the day, it's completely their individual choice on whether they want to stay in Oxford and finish what they started and potentially win a National Championship, or finally pack their bags.
"Yeah, communication has been constant the entire time. Everybody does this. Everybody is targeting us on this. There’s multiple teams that have coordinators that have other jobs; they’ve taken head jobs everywhere else. Every year that I was at Alabama that we went to the playoffs, we had coordinators and assistants who had other jobs," Golding said in his press conference previewing the Fiesta Bowl.
"So all they’re doing is two jobs. They have a responsibility to the next institution they’re going to work out. It’s the portal, the recruiting, they’re doing other things. They’re still doing the game plan prep, will be in the practices, and all those types of things."
The division of duties looks messy, but Ole Miss is doing the best they can for now with what they have.
The Rebels fans should have high expectations from Golding in 2026, since he would have a stable staff and possibly, Trinidad Chambliss.
