Are these 3 SEC teams the most overrated heading into the 2024 season?
Missouri Tigers
What an achievement for Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz in 2023: finishing the season as the No. 8 team in the country. The Tigers ran Georgia close for a high percentage of their game, then beat Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Can they have back-to-back top-10-ranked seasons in 2024?
It could happen, but they will need everybody to play to their peak, which is what happened last season. The significant loss for Missouri is running back Cody Schrader, who totaled 1,627 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023. He was a big part of that offense, alongside wide receiver Luther Burden, who does return. Have the Tigers got enough in transfers Nate Noel and Marcus Carroll to cover what they have lost at tailback?
If they don't and quarterback Brady Cook regresses, then a top-10 finish seems out of reach. Their schedule isn't too bad. However, they have Alabama, Texas A&M, and South Carolina on the road, as well as Oklahoma and Auburn.
Missouri will still be a good team in 2024, with head coach Eli Drinkwitz changing the attitude after three mediocre seasons from 2020 to 2022. The Tigers will still make the top 25 at the end of the season but likely down in the middle or below of the rankings.
