College Football Preseason Coaches Poll has four SEC teams in the top 6

Twenty-five days are all there is between Ole Miss and their week 1 game against Furman. That's plenty of time for more rat poison, this time courtesy of the coaches' poll top 25.

Everybody and his dog know that Ole Miss is a National Championship contender this season. A selection of football head coaches believe so, too, with Ole Miss ranked No.6, behind three other SEC teams.

Every preseason poll has Georgia and Texas above the Rebels, as they have again in the coach's poll. The other SEC team ranked above and below Ole Miss was Alabama, with the Crimson Tide ranked No. 5.

There is much discussion about Alabama in 2024 without the legendary Nick Saban as head coach. Half of the media believe they will be just fine, while the other half think they may experience some dropoff under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. The college head coaches who submitted their preseason rankings believe that Alabama will still be a force in 2024.

The 2024 season is set to be one of the most closely contested yet. Behind the top four of Georgia, Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State, it's choppy. Ole Miss usually lands at No.5 or No.6 but has been as low as No.8. Alabama is generally around the same spots, but Missouri and LSU, who usually land in the top 10, both slip out in the coaches poll at No. 11 and No.12, respectively.

What surprised us about the Preseason Coaches Poll?

There weren't too many surprises regarding the Coaches AP Poll, but one major one was Clemson, which was much higher than other polls. This may be due to reputation, but the Tigers are usually ranked in the lower half of the rankings after two below-par seasons.

USC is lower than consensus at No.23, the fifth Big Ten Conference team, a number of spots behind No. 9 Penn State. Iowa still stays in the rankings, which may change after this season, with a tougher conference schedule for them going forward.
