Several weeks ago, Ole Miss had one of the most talented running backs decommit, but they could land a commitment from another high-caliber 2025 running back.
Yesterday, David Johnson from 247Sports Inside the Rebels logged a crystal ball prediction for running back Shekai Mills-Knight to commit to Ole Miss. A four-star rated prospect, Mills-Knight has also been heavily recruited by Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Missouri, and Tennessee.
Shekai Mills-Knight is ranked the No. 28 running back in the nation and the No. 10 overall player in Tennessee per 247Sports Composite Rankings. Heading into his senior year at Baylor High School, Mills-Knight has been on campus visits to Auburn, Alabama, and Ole Miss in June.
A big running back at 6-foot-1 and 217 pounds, Mills-Knight has been looking to announce his commitment before the end of summer. Ohio State and Auburn still have a chance of moving back in front.
An interesting fact about Shekai Mills-Knight is that his Uncle, Glen Mills, coached former Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt. Having a family member with that type of background is a benefit as a running back.
2025 running back has the potential to start as a freshman for Ole Miss
One thing head coach Lane Kiffin has always been true to is that if you are good enough to play, you will, even as a true freshman. We saw that with former Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, a three-star recruit who found significant action in his first year.
If the Rebels land a running back commit from the 2025 class, there is an opportunity to play right out of the bat—something Shekai Mills-Knight and other running backs from the upcoming recruiting class will be aware of.
Kiffin will always look to bolster position groups in recruiting and the transfer portal, which he will do after this season. The running back position will be scarce, with three running backs on the roster heading into their final year of eligibility.
Shekai Mills-Knight is not the only running back Ole Miss is recruiting, but he has the talent and build to carve out a role in year one wherever he commits.
