Six months from the shock retirement of Nick Saban as Alabama's head coach, the college football GOAT is all in as an analyst. During this week's SEC Media Days, Saban still had plenty of buzz around him with his comments and stories.
Joking aside, Texas was the talk of SEC Media Days, though it appears that Nick Saban is still near the top of the tree regarding media content even as an analyst.
The week working for SEC Network couldn't have gotten a better start for content surrounding Saban when he forgot his media credentials. It meant despite being one of the most familiar faces in college football, he wasn't getting in, heading back to his room to pick his lanyard up.
The same day, he predicted that his former team would not make the SEC Championship game, predicting it to be Georgia and Texas. Call that deflecting team biased, but it got enough people talking, even the Alabama players, when asked about it on day 3.
""He always said don't let some guy who lives in his mom's basement determine how you feel. I'm not going to let a guy who plays golf all day determine how I feel.""Alabama offensive guard Tyler Booker
Nick Saban fits into his analyst role perfectly, giving a unique perspective from one of the best head coaches in college football. We have heard some great stories and insight into what goes through a head coach's mind in specific scenarios.
Fans will see more of Nick Saban on ESPN when Colle Gameday starts in week 1, and potentially on other shows.
Current SEC coaches show plenty of love to Nick Saban
During the four days at SEC Media Days, the current string of college head coaches showed plenty of love and respect for Nick Saban. The former Alabama head coach is well respected around the game, which was on full display this week.
It started with Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin describing how Saban took a chance on him by hiring him at Alabama after his firing at USC. Kiffin also said Saban reached out to him after his father's passing, which meant a lot. Receiving a text meant even more, with Kiffin saying Saban doesn't do texting, something Georgia head coach Kirby Smart also said.
On day 3, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also thanked Saban for giving him the chance to coach at Alabama. Sarkisian, like Kiffin, was also the offensive coordinator under Coach Saban at Alabama, saying during his press conference, "I would not be standing here today without you."
Current Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe showed love to his former head coach, and many others shared stories and expressed gratitude to the best who ever did it, Nick Saban.
