The Howell and Gillam Trophy finalist shortlists have been announced today. The trophies are awarded to the best men's and women's basketball players from the state of Mississippi.
The Howell Trophy winner represents the best male Mississippi basketball player of the season. Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell made the finalist list alongside Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard and Southern Miss's Austin Crowley.
Murrell leads the team in points and steals per game while also shooting at 47.2% from the field. The senior guard has been instrumental for the Rebels, especially in their 19 wins this season.
The best female basketball player in the state of Mississippi is awarded the Gillom Trophy, with Ole Miss guard Marquesha Davis making the finalist list. Davis will be up against Mississippi State's Jessika Carter and Southern Miss's Domonique Davis.
Que is in her second season as a starter with the Rebels, leading the team in scoring with 19.7 points per game. Davis is also registering 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season.
The winners will be announced on March 11, with all finalists in attendance with their head coaches.
