Lane Kiffin happy the team has stuff to work on this week after complacency creeps in for Ole Miss
Ole Miss took the spoils in Week 3, defeating Wake Forest 40-6 in Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. Head coach Lane Kiffin was impressed with most parts of the performance but was unhappy with several mental mistakes.
The Rebels gave up over 100 yards of penalties, two of which offset turnovers after good defensive plays. Quarterback Jaxson Dart had a couple of moments of complacency. However, Kiffin said he was happy that these things had happened.
Ole Miss has things to work on this week, says Kiffin
There was never any danger of Ole Miss losing this game, but against better opposition, the mistakes could have been costly for the Rebels. Ole Miss has one more game against a team they should beat; then it's on SEC opponents. The Week 3 result between Georgia and Kentucky shows how difficult it can be in the Southeastern Conference.
After the game, Lane Kiffin spoke to the media. Although he was disappointed with the mental mistakes, he was also happy, giving them something to work on this week in practice.
""It's good. If this had been another 60-point win, we probably wouldn't have had their attention (players). It's good for us to have stuff to clean up.""
- Lane Kiffin on mistake in Week 3
Ole Miss gave up over 100 yards to their opponents on penalties, with several holding plays in the secondary, one of which negated a fumble recovery from linebacker Chris Paul Jr. The offensive line made mistakes, with holding calls and false starts, which was uncharacteristic of them.
The center, Reece McIntyre, fired a snap a little too high inside the five-yard line, which Jaxson Dart couldn't recover, resulting in not putting points on the board. Dart also threw an interception and was given a 15-point unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against him after taking his helmet off when the play wasn't dead.
In Week 4, Ole Miss faces Georgia Southern in Oxford, looking to go 4-0 before SEC play. Kiffin will have the team working on cleaning up those mistakes before then.
