Benson averaged 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in only 15.2 minutes per game during his 2023 season with the Pirates. His first three years in college were spent with SEC rivals South Carolina, appearing in only 16 games.
A 2020 recruit, Benson was rated a three-star prospect and the No.5 overall player from his home state of South Carolina. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
How will Chris Beard Utilize Hampton transfer, Ja'Von Benson?
Ja'Von Benson's commitment adds to the Rebels' growing front-court depth. The additions of Mikeal Brown-Jones, Dre Davis, and Davon Barnes from the transfer portal, combined with returning forward Jaemyn Brakefield, make the Rebels look strong on the rotation front.
Benson appeared in 32 games, starting 15 for Hampshire, being a top depth piece who could push to start in 2024-25. The Rebels are getting a player who is a top rebounder, an area Ole Miss struggled in last season.
It's likely this won't be Chris Beard's final roster piece. However, the depth chart looks much stronger than last season on paper.
