Ole Miss Football Defensive End Cedric Johnson Heads to the AFC North
Ole Miss Football Defensive End Cedric Johnson was selected in the 6th round by Cincinnati.
Cedric Johnson was the second Ole Miss player selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. The athletic defensive end will join the Bengals and look to make a strong impression during training camp.
It's always been believed that Johnson would be the highest-drafted Rebel at this year's draft. However, Johnson was the second pick behind cornerback Deantre Prince, who was taken in the 5th round.
As it stands, Johnson will join an experienced defensive line room with players such as Sam Hubbard, Sheldon Rankins, and potentially Trey Hendrickson, who has reportedly asked for a trade out of Cincinnati.
What Does Cedric Johnson Bring to Cincinnati at the Next Level?
The Bengals are set to benefit from Johnson's immense potential. With his room for growth and the opportunity to become a formidable defensive end at the next level, his addition to the team holds promise for a bright future.
Johnson is an athletic specimen with high-end explosiveness who knows how to rush the passer with speed and strength. However, if Johnson could add more pass-rush moves to his arsenal, it would make him an even deadlier threat off the line.
He has the versatility to play from an assortment of alignments, adding some serious weight to play inside and out. He is solid against the run but could benefit from seeing the game slower, playing at 100mph on most of his snaps.
All the areas of concern are easily fixed and do not knock the fourth-year senior's ability. He should have some time to develop and reach his high potential.
