Could Ole Miss Football add a third running back during the spring transfer portal?

Only a couple of weeks ago, On3 ranked the Ole Miss running back unit as the fifth-best in the Nation. However, head coach Lane Kiffin wants to bring a third running back in from the spring portal.

New Mexico State transfer running back Star Thomas is down to four schools in his commitment process. He is considering Ole Miss, California, Duke, and Toledo.

A 2022 recruit out of junior college, Thomas had 220 carries for 1,178 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns in the last two seasons with the Aggies. Thomas is also a threat in the passing game, catching 34 passes for 351 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. He was named a second-team All-Conference-USA selection.

Ole Miss has three active players in the running back room. All three bring a wealth of experience to the team. Thomas is currently listed at 225 pounds, much bigger than the available running backs on the roster. Kiffin did bring in Logan Diggs in January, who is listed at 215 pounds. However, Diggs is rehabbing from knee surgery and has an unknown timeline for his return.

Thomas could be a running back used on short yard downs and rotate in with the other backs in the room. If he does commit to Ole Miss, it would make the room even more well-rounded.
