Ole Miss stays at No. 6 despite some odd AP Poll voters' choices
Ole Miss did what was expected of them Saturday and maybe a little more, dispatching FCS Furman while putting up 76 points to zero. The AP Poll voters who had them at No. 6 in the preseason rankings believe nothing has changed for them to move up or down.
The only changes in the top 10 were Notre Dame switching places with Oregon, with the Fighting Irish now at No. 5 and Oregon dropping below the Rebels to No. 7. Notre Dame had an impressive win against Texas A&M in College Station. In contrast, Oregon won against FCS side Idaho but was a lackluster 24-14 victory.
The other change was Florida State tumbling out of the top 25 after starting 0-2, with losses against Georgia Tech and Boston College conference teams. Missouri jumped up, making it five SEC teams in the top 10 of the week 2 AP Poll.
One AP Poll voter drops Ole Miss to No. 10
Despite Ole Miss staying at No.6, a few voters changed their stance on the Rebels, one of them being college football analyst Brett McMurphy. McMurphy released his AP Poll voting, which had Ole Miss dropping from his last vote of No.6 to No.10.
It seemed an odd decision because if you had Ole Miss at No.6 before they faced Furman, the only reason you could drop them is if they underperformed. In fact, they probably did a little more than expected by winning 76-0 over the FCS opposition.
Alabama and Texas, who also played teams they were expected to beat, did not fall in his rankings despite winning with style points. I understand Notre Dame, Miami, and USC all had impressive wins, but if you are dropping Ole Miss for beating lesser opponents, you have to do the same with the others.
With the Rebels staying at No. 6, it seemed the majority of voters stuck with their preseason rankings and believed there was no reason to drop Ole Miss. Next up is Middle Tennessee, with the team expected to win again. If they do, will they drop again?
