Winning the Biletnikoff Award is a big deal for college football pass catchers. Ole Miss's Tre Harris is looking to make history for the program. He made a good start by making the 50 players on the preseason watchlist.

One of the highest-rated wide receivers in college football in 2024, Harris is set to be the leader in receiving again for the Rebels. Last season, he finished with 54 receptions for 985 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, all while missing three games through injury.

Harris was alongside some elite receivers, with Luther Burden III (Missouri,) Travis Hunter (Colorado,) and Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona) some of the names from the list of 50. The award will be announced on December 18 at The Home Depot College Football Awards, with names being whittled down to three finalists before then.

Harris is the second player to make an award watchlist this week, with running back Ulysses Bentley IV making the Doak Walker watchlist yesterday.

Other Ole Miss pass catchers could be added during the season

Tre Harris may be the only Rebel named to the preseason Biletnikoff Award watchlist, but it will not be surprising if more join him. Antwane Wells and Jordan Watkins have the potential to put up high numbers in 2024.

In 2023, Watkins finished with 741 receiving yards and three touchdowns from 53 receptions, the third-highest total on the team. Three players had over 700 receiving yards last season, and these receivers had even more meat on the bone.

Wells may have missed the majority of last season through injury with South Carolina, but in 2022, he showed his capabilities. He had 68 yards for 928 receiving yards and six touchdowns. During his 2021 season with James Madison, he finished with 1,250 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

Both players could be on the watchlist at some point in the season if they hit the form they are capable of. Don't rule out tight end Caden Prieskorn, either, especially if he continues where he left off with his 136 receiving yards during the Peach Bowl last season.
