Ole Miss Women's Basketball Heads into Round 2 Of the NCAA Tournament
Ole Miss Women punched their ticket into round 2 of the NCAA Tournament with a 67-55 win over Marquette.
The Lady Rebels faced a tough battle against 10-seed Marquette on March 23, in round 1 of the NCAA Tournament. After a back-and-forth first 3-quarters, Ole Miss pulled away late to set up a round 2 game against Notre Dame on March 25.
A 12-2 run for the Rebels late in the 4th quarter was the turning point, with Kennedy Todd-Williams a driving force with points and rebounds.
Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin liked what she saw down the stretch from the Lady Rebels. “That is dictate and disrupt,” Yolett McPhee-McCuin said. “That is what it should look like. That is where we’re most comfortable, when we hunker down and we get an incredible competitive swagger about ourselves and we decide you’re not scoring. When we’re like that, we’re pretty tough to beat."
Coach Yo will hope to see this aggressive basketball against the Fighting Irish in round 2. Two times, the Lady Rebels pinched the ball with a steal, then drove to the basket to score. It wasn't something on sure early on in the game.
Ole Miss had four players reach double digits in scoring, with Madison Scott leading the team with 20 points. Scott had 6 rebounds, with three other layers passing that number.
"“Just doing whatever my team needs me to do, scoring, rebounding, just leading." “Anything for us to be successful, I’m going to do that.”"
- Ole Miss forward Madison Scott
The Lady Rebels will now face Notre Dame on their home court. The Fighting Irish are the 2-seed but have a list of injuries to key players. Ole Miss will fancy their chances in making the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen stage for the second time in two years.
