Ole Miss Women's Basketball: SEC Tournament QF Preview vs Florida
Ole Miss Women will take on Florida tonight in the quarter-finals of the Women's Basketball SEC Tournament.
The Lady Rebels will be last on the court tonight in the SEC Tournament quarter-finals. They will take on #11 seed Florida, who survived a late fightback from Vanderbilt yesterday to progress in the tournament.
It was a surprise win for Florida over the #6-seeded Vanderbilt, with guard Aliyah Matharu dropping 35 points, over half of the team's total points. The win made it two from two, after dispatching Missouri 66-60 in the first round on Wednesday.
Ole Miss has beaten the Gators on both occasions during the regular season, both times by double-digit points. They scored over 70 points in both games, which is significant as the Rebels are 11-1 this season when surpassing 70 points in games.
Florida ranks in the top five in the Southeastern Conference in points per game averaging 75.6. However, they are allowing 71 points per game to opponents, putting them in the top half of the rankings nationally.
Two players that are key to the Gators offense are Aliyah Matharu and Leilani Correa, both averaging over 17 points per game. Correa leads the SEC in scoring with 517 points against conference teams.
Against a Florida team who are efficient in scoring, Ole Miss will need to do the same as they have most of the season. Any fall-off from the regular season and the Rebels could fall at the quarter-final stage. However, the Lady Rebels have won the last five games against Florida, starting back from the 2022 SEC Tournament quarter-final.
