The latest 2024 SEC coach rankings have dropped from Saturday Down South's national columnist Connor O'Gara. Ole Miss fans will be surprised where Lane Kiffin has landed.
It's that time of the year when college football media drop different types of rankings. The latest one to drop comes from media company Saturday Down South, one of the top SEC media outlets.
Senior National Columnist Connor O'Gara has released his 2024 SEC coach rankings with some surprises.
Coming off the best season in Ole Miss football history with 11 wins, most fans would expect to see Lane Kiffin as the top three-ranked head coach. However, O'Gara had Kiffin as the number four-ranked head coach in the SEC.
No surprise to anybody, Georgia's head coach, Kirby Smart held the number one spot. What was a surprise was LSU's Brian Kelly, alongside new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, being ranked ahead of Lane Kiffin.
Brian Kelly has been the head coach of the Tigers for two seasons now, making the SEC Championship game in his first season. Last season, they disappointed, finishing the regular season 9-3, with one of those losses coming against Lane Kiffin's Rebels.
Kalen DeBoer, who recently took the Alabama job after the retirement of Nick Saban, was ranked one spot ahead of Lane Kiffin. Last season, DeBoer took his previous team, Washington to the National Championship game, losing out to Michigan.
However, DeBoer has not coached in the SEC, with Lane Kiffin having numerous seasons with Ole Miss and previously, Tennessee. Despite what DeBoer achieved last season with Washington, it feels odd to have him ranked in front of Lane Kiffin.
Heading into his fifth season as the Ole Miss head coach, Kiffin is assembling a team that looks to be ready to challenge for an SEC championship, as well as a national championship.
Opinions will always differ from person to person. However, Lane Kiffin is a clear top-three head coach in the SEC. Missouri fans will likely have something to say about where Eli Drinkwitz is ranked.
