Four-star safety Jhase Thomas announced he was committing to LSU today, choosing the Tigers over Ole Miss, Colorado, Houston, and Texas Tech.

The son of former Ole Miss cornerback Fred Thomas, he chose to commit to his in-state team over following in his father's footsteps at Ole Miss. It was reportedly a close run between the Tigers and the Rebels, with Jhase Thomas weighing both programs. However, the talented DB chose to stay home.

Thomas is ranked the No. 22 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 10 overall player from Louisiana per On3. On3 was the only recruiting site that rated him four stars, with others rating Thomas as a three-star player.

As a program, you want to try to acquire as many recruits as you can, regardless of the position. However, Ole Miss is looking solid when it comes to recruiting defensive backs from the 2025 class.

Ole Miss still chasing multiple 2025 defensive backs

Despite losing out to LSU for Jhase Thomas, the Rebels still have a strong 2025 secondary class. As it stands, Ole Miss has three safeties and one cornerback committed from the class, with versatility across the secondary from players such as Major Preston and Cortez Thomas.

The Rebels also received a commitment from four-star safety Keon Young, rated the No. 23 safety in the 2025 class.

In addition to these current commits, Ole Miss is still chasing multiple secondary players, including one of its main targets, Ladarian Clardy. The four-star safety looks high on Ole Miss, Florida State, and Washington. Clardy will announce his commitment on August 3.

Ole Miss is also targeting Tennessee native and three-star safety Jaylen Mosley alongside rivals Mississippi State.

As we keep saying, it's very early in the recruiting process for the class of 2025 prospects. Expect things to change until early signing day in December.
