It was a tough Saturday afternoon for Ole Miss as they went down to Kentucky 20-17, with a missed field goal in the final minute to tie the game. Yes, it's a setback for the Rebels, but this coming week can make or break their season.

On a different day, Lane Kiffin and his team could be 5-0 today. However, mistakes and missed opportunities have them facing a momentous week for the team's playoff aspirations. It's time for togetherness and a strong mentality before the trip to South Carolina.

Locker room leaders are more important than ever

After a tough loss, the team needed to stay together, and luckily for Ole Miss, they had some high-level leaders in the locker room. Quarterback Jaxson Dart is one of the clear leaders on the team, a focal point in putting this roster together for the 2024 season.

A deflated Dart took to the podium after the game and spoke about what needs to happen going forward and, importantly, putting the loss behind them.

""One game is not going to define the whole year, but at the same time you better make the most of your opportunities""

People may question his demeanor during the press conference, but any competitor interviewed after a loss doesn't want to be in that position. Dart would rather sleep the loss off and get back to work, as many athletes would like to do. The leader he is, he stands in front of the press and answers questions, win or lose.

On offense, Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Tre Harris, and offensive tackle Micah Pettus will be vital on the offense to get them back on track. Jared Ivey, John Saunders Jr., and J.J. Pegues must do the same on defense. Despite the loss, the defensive front can hold their head high, putting the team in situations to win the game.

Every coach and player needs to band together this week, as the next game is challenging. It's a road game against South Carolina, a team that has beaten Kentucky this season. This week at practice will determine which direction this team will take.
