Yesterday evening, Ole Miss football made headlines with a flurry of decommitments. Five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, linebacker Corey Amos, and another wide receiver, Dillon Alfred, decided to reopen their recruiting.
After several months of good recruiting news, it does feel like a setback. However, this is a common theme in college football. LSU and USC have seen top commits open up their process again after decommitting from their programs over the last month. The concern for the Rebels is that we saw three in the space of several hours.
Was it just a mere coincidence that all three players decided to decommit on the same day? That is likely the case, with no bad vibes around their reasoning for opening up their process again. They likely had a recent visit to another school, and it went well enough for them to reset their recruiting process.
The three decommitments move Ole Miss way down the 2025 team recruiting rankings. However, we are in June, and we are still six months away from the early signing window in December. There is still plenty of time for head coach Lane Kiffin to make moves. Don't be surprised to see at least one of these three players recommit to the Rebels in the future.
Decommitments won't faze Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin
One thing is for sure, head coach Lane Kiffin won't be affected by yesterday's news. He has been in and around college football long enough to know it's a rollercoaster ride, primarily when recruiting.
Despite losing three talented players, I can guarantee Kiffin will surprise fans by securing one or two commitments that fans did not expect. For example, if Ole Miss lands a commitment from Caleb Cunningham, any decommitments from the past are forgotten.
We will see what the next two months bring before the season starts. Kiffin could also use some of his tricks during the season to land commitments from talented players. Buckle yourself in; it's always exciting with Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss.
