Ole Miss Basketball has landed their first commitment from the transfer portal in UNC Greensboro forward Mikeal Brown-Jones.

Ole Miss Head coach Chris Beard has been relentless in his pursuit of talent from the transfer portal. His perseverance paid off on April 13, when he secured his first commitment from the portal. Joe Tipton of On3 announced that UNCG forward Mikeal Brown-Jones has committed to the Rebels on social media.

Brown-Jones finished the 2023/24 season averaging 18.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, earning him first-team All-Summit League honours.

The Philadelphia native is ranked the No.20 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings as of April 13. Brown-Jones was also rated a four-star player when he entered the portal.

Getting a talented forward into the building is enormous for Coach Beard. It's also a needed one, as the forward position is potentially looking bare at the moment.

Is This the Start of More Transfers Through the Door for Ole Miss?

As mentioned, head coach Chris Beard's start to the transfer portal has been slow. However, now that the season is over, we could see the start of more transfers heading to Oxford.

Ole Miss is in for several players from the transfer portal, and with the roster losing some key members, he will need to add several.

Beard did a great job of adding talent from the portal last season despite being in the job for a short time. This time, he has had more time to access where to strengthen from the portal and in recruiting.

We are still in the early stages of the college basketball transfer portal, so there is no need to panic.
