Ole Miss's biggest future concern? Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding just solved it before it even became one.

Trinidad Chambliss’s eligibility saga forced a heavy-hitting question to the surface: Who will be his replacement? Pete Golding already has a QB room overflowing with talent, but when finding Chambliss's replacement, it's less about who can handle the QB duties; it's more about who can match the arm and the football IQ standard Chambliss has set.

Golding put the issue to bed back in October 2025 when Lane Kiffin still handled the reins with a hard commitment from Baylor QB Keegan Croucher.

Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher floated as No. 1 QB in the country

The Rebels' head coach recognized Croucher's talent early, but the rest of the SEC is only just now waking up to the scale of what he pulled off.

ON3's Steve Wiltfong reported coaches across the country think Croucher is the "No. 1 QB" of the 2027 cycle.

"There are coaches on the next level that believe Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher is the No. 1 QB in the country."

The only challenge now would be to keep Croucher around, because, as expected, the blue-blood vultures are circling in to snatch the generational talent.

"He was back in Oxford last weekend," Wiltfong reported, continuing, "Has Kentucky visit set and will add Indiana and potentially Georgia to the plans."

”Ole Miss jumped out to me right away,” Croucher said when he initially commited to Ole Miss squad that was still Kiffin's.

That's exactly what makes the situation more pressing for Golding. The 6-4, 205 pounder QB initially committed to a squad led by Kiffin, and not Golding.

It is particularly for situations like these that Golding has put together an army of Ole Miss alumni coaches with extensive connections in the recruiting world.
