SEC releases 2025 schedules; Ole Miss has opportunities to get the College Football Playoff
Ole Miss football and the rest of the Southeastern Conference revealed their 2035 schedule. The Rebels will play the same conference teams as in 2024 but in reverse venues. This means that, once again, the Rebels have a good opportunity to get to the College Football Playoffs.
It's even better than 2024, but the SEC gauntlet can be challenging, with the Rebels losing three conference games. Will there be less hype around them in 2025? It's likely not after the transfer portal closes.
Positives in Ole Miss schedule release
What could be a positive for Ole Miss in 2025 is that their nonconference schedule is spread between their SEC schedule. In 2024, the Rebels went eight games straight playing SEC teams. It's a small difference-maker, but it could help.
Two of the nonconference teams they face in 2025 are much better teams than they faced in 2024: Tulane, runners-up in the AAC, and Washington State, currently in the Pac-12, with an 8-4 record. The Rebels don't technically have a Power 4 conference team because Wake Forest pulled out of their obligation to face Ole Miss in 2025, but it shouldn't be a problem regarding the playoffs if they do well in SEC play.
Every SEC head coach will tell you that all conference road games are challenging, but Ole Miss has, on paper, favorite ones, aside from the trip to Athens. Kentucky in Week 2, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State are the road games, and based on the 2024 records, they might have chosen three. However, they shouldn't expect to roll into those stadiums and win if they don't perform well.
Bye weeks come in Week 6, after the home game against LSU, and in Week 13, after Florida at home, just before the Egg Bowl in Starkville.
The schedule, like in 2024, offers opportunities. However, the Rebels missed the College Football Playoffs due to three one-score losses. In 2025, the team will be much different, so expectations might be reduced, which could help.
