South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer has a problem with letting go. Whenever he gets a chance to mention "fake injury gate," he doesn't hold back.
Beamer has spoken about it again after being pressed on the matter. However, instead of just giving a brief comment, he brought up a team that they had played in 2024, clearly meaning Ole Miss.
"A team that we played this season — it’s amazing how many times they had an injury on defense after the opposing offense made a first down on an explosive play and had some momentum."Shane Beamer
Ole Miss was one team of many that were part of the issue in 2024, but years previously, it had happened to them numerous times.
Fans seem to forget that Lane Kiffin's offense is uptempo. Once they get rolling, they don't get in the huddle and keep the momentum, forcing the current defensive players to stay on the field, usually tired.
Not to the extent we saw it this season, but teams would see opposing players go down with an injury. This would enable the defense to substitute fresh players in and allow the coaches to communicate better with the on-field players.
Some fans were saying it was all a ply from Lane Kiffin. The rumor is that if Ole Miss players did it constantly alongside other teams, it would draw attention to the issue. This means that in the long run, it would help the Rebels out, with the SEC looking at fining teams/players and imposing bans.
It's a bold take, but it wouldn't be surprising with Lane Kiffin as the accused. We will see how it all unfolds during the 2025 season, but with eyes on the issue, expect it not to be a problem again.
