The initial 2025 CFP rankings are finally upon us, and the Ole Miss Rebels were ranked precisely where they were expected: in the Top 10.
Just a one-loss team so far, the Rebels were rightly placed at No. 6, right after Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Georgia.
All these teams have slightly better resumes than the Rebels based on their strength of schedule, which justifies their rankings.
However, the actual College Football Playoff still has a few weeks to go, and the initial rankings often see some major shakeups during these weeks.
Among these, Ole Miss in particular has a shot at finishing as a Top 5 team in the final 2025 CFP rankings.
Ole Miss's future CFP rankings depend partly on other teams
All the teams ranked ahead of Ole Miss has a tough matchup ahead of them that could potentially stumble their rankings down from the Top 5.

Ohio State's biggest threat Michigan still looms over them, and is highly anticipated to be the game that breaks their undefeated record. Indiana's biggest concern would probably be facing Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship.
Alabama has Oklahoma lined up, which comes with a tough defense to crack through. Same with Georgia facing Texas.
If either of these teams lose even a single game, they will still likely remain in the Top 10, just that they might end up falling out of the Top 5.
The Ole Miss Rebels, on the other hand, don't have any more games left on their schedule that won't be manageable.
They face Citadel next, where they are a heavy favorite. And it's the same with Florida and Mississippi State.
If either of the four teams loses any game and falls by a point or two, and Ole Miss continues their winning streak to end the season as an 11-1 team, they could very much be a top 5 team by the final version of the 2025 CFP rankings.
