Ole Miss baseball is coming off a huge SEC series winning weekend which found them taking 2 of 3 from the Mizzou Tigers. Of course, any game against TSBU is always a huge game. However, throw the ‘Governors Cup’ in the mix and this becomes the Egg Bowl of baseball.

Of course, today you’ll hear the opposition say the game doesn’t matter because it doesn’t count towards the SEC records of either team. As a Ole Miss Baseball fan you’ll also hear the win/loss record doesn’t matter either. The Bullys use their own spin to make the game seem less important than it truly is, That is, of course, unless they win. Then, they are the SEC team who invented college baseball and are the best thing since sliced bread. Oh, you know how they are.

At any rate, there are some things which should be known about The Governors Cup. First, according to OleMissSports.com, the Governors Cup, formerly the ‘Mayors Trophy Game’,  was instituted by the Jackson Mayor Dale Danks Jr. in 1980. Since 2007, the annual neutral site game has been played at TrustMark Park in Pearl, Ms and was renamed the Governors Cup. Second, it is considered a non-SEC game, but don’t dare think for one second it isn’t an important game.
