Ole Miss Softball: #21 Lady Rebels Drop Tight Series At #5 Auburn
The #21 Ole Miss softball team was facing a very tough SEC opponent in the #5 Auburn Tigers on Friday. The Lady Rebels played a very close game 1, however, they came up short in a 3-1 loss. Game 2 was a slam-fest for the Rebels as they evened the series in a blowout 10-4 win.
Sunday came down to the wire once again as the Auburn Tiger team would turn stingy. Ole Miss softball kept the pressure on Auburn throughout the game with great pitching and glove play. However, the Lady Rebels would fall short in another close 3-1 loss.
The #21 Ole Miss Rebels (26-13, 3-9) are playing great softball right now. The bad part is it happens to come in the meat of a tough SEC schedule. However, don’t let the SEC record fool you. They are #21 for a very good reason. Every one of their conference losses have come at the hands of ranked teams.
The Auburn Series
#5 Auburn is the most formidable opponent which this Ole Miss team has faced thus far, in my opinion. Although the Lady Rebels dropped the series to Auburn, they kept it tight the entire weekend. The series basically came down to a rubber game Sunday.

The Tigers won game-1 in a 3-1 decision on Friday with Ole Miss evening the series on Saturday with a 10-4 blowout. It would be another low-scoring affair with the Rebels getting on the board in the 1st. The 1 run would be all the Tigers would allow in the game.
Auburn would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st to go ahead in the game. Of course, they would score 1 more run in the 3rd inning and set it on cruise to take the 3-1 win and the series.
In The Circle
Kaitlin Lee (9-6, 2.38) would once again get the start in the series. She also started in game-1 on Friday, in which she was electric. In game-3 she would continue to battle against the Tigers, pitching 6 innings, while giving up only 3 earned-runs on 5 hits. Kaylee Carlson would go 7 innings for the Tigers, allowing the 1 earned-run on 4 hits.
At The Plate
After blasting 15 hits against #5 Auburn Saturday, the Rebel bats were limited on Sunday. The Rebels managed to jump out front in the top of the 1st on a throwing error score by Elantra Cox. Elantra (.485) went 2 for 3 on the day, at the plate. Kylan Becker (.383) went 1 for 3, while Sarah Van Schaik (.320) also went 1 for 3.
What’s Next
The #21 Ole Miss softball team will be hosting the Memphis Tigers Wednesday night in Oxford to kick off a 4 game home-stretch. Of course, the Lady Rebels will be welcoming the LSU Tigers in a weekend SEC series. First pitch for the contest against Memphis will be 6pm CT.
