Ole Miss Football: More Rebels Land In Late Draft Rounds, One Big Surprise
DJ Jones
Ole Miss Rebels Football
The 198th pick in the 6th round, DJ Jones is headed to play football at the San Fransisco 49ers. Although DJ played only two years in Oxford, he became a nightmare for opposing offensive linemen. DJ is a big and fast NT/DT.
While playing football at Ole Miss, DJ was a defensive line anchor and had 6 sacks and 8.5 TFL. He is strong and could penetrate an offensive line.
Why?
At 6’1″ and 319 lbs he will be a formidable line-crasher in the pros. DJ has the frame to put on even more muscle and of course, the NFL will whip him into the shape they want him to be in pretty quick.
According to NinersWire.com, DJ will likely compete for a spot at Nose Tackle with Mike Purcell. Of course, the Niners recently added free agent Earl Mitchell who is the likely starter.
I have a feeling we won’t have to wait long to see a lot more from DJ. According to Joe Fann with 49ers.com,
"Has quick hands and is nice with the swim move. Has necessary play traits to be an effective rusher in the twist game. Rare reactive athleticism and short-area lateral quickness for an interior player. Extended tackle radius allows him to close out running lanes away from his gap. Keeps hounding runners down the field for the tackle. Instinctive and quickly sniffs out screen passes. Very rarely on ground. ~NFL Draft Profile"
Good Luck DJ and Hotty Toddy. Thanks for the memories as an EMCC Lion and as a Ole Miss Rebel.
