Of course, coach Roach was on Nick Saban’s staff as director of player development prior to finding his spot on Freeze’s staff earlier this year. However, it wasn’t just working at Bama which got Roach his gig at Ole Miss. There is a long trail of success which Roach brings to Ole Miss.

Roach began his collegiate coaching career in Tuscaloosa as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. While there he was a part of the 2009 SEC Champion and BCS National Champion teams.

Roach then found his way to EMCC / Scooba, Mississippi in 2011 as defensive line coach and director of strength and conditioning. Of course, while there he was a part of a NJCAA National Championship team.

After spending the 2012 season with Murray State as defensive line coach and also assisting with strength and conditioning, Freddie found his way back to Alabama. But this time he would be at South Alabama as both defensive end and linebacker coach. According to OleMissSports.com,

"Roach helped the Jaguars end the 2013 season third nationally in sacks per game and 21st in tackles for loss per contest, while finishing second in the Sun Belt in pass, total and scoring defense. The 2014 defense was second in the Sun Belt in total defense. ~OleMissSports.com"

That’s pretty solid numbers for a guy who was pulling double duty on the defensive side of the ball. But what impresses me most about coach Freddie Roach is his attitude and his work ethic. It is unchanging over the years from his playing days at Bama and he brings it to the practice field every day. Freddie Roach never took a play off in college and was successful as a player. We also know he has been successful as a coach because of the same reasons.
