Once again Ole Miss football fans are treated to another edition of the Grove Grinder. The beginning of football season marks the beginning of fall and this has OHT excited.

Ole Miss football completed week one of the college football season with a win over the Jags of South Alabama. In a 47-27 win where AJ Brown set a new single-game receiving record the Rebel offense looked really good. I know I’m excited for this week. Sure, we gave up a few points but it usually takes a defense longer to acclimate than it does the offense.

The offense has acclimated and I suspect we see them try to go faster this week against UT-Martin. I also expect we see more focus on the rushing game this week. Rebel fans have noted the lack of a stout rushing game last week and we know RBs flourish in the Longo system.

Right now D’Vaughn Pennamon is hot and will garner the majority of carries this week. I seriously anticipate Pennamon getting twice the touches this week at least. However, much of this seasons rushing will be by committee. I also see Jordan Wilkins getting hot this week.

Good Times In The Grove

At my age I’m just happy to make The Grove once or twice a season. Well, I got one out of my system last Saturday. Last second preparations caused some logistical nightmares for some of us. However, a good time was had by all with the help of some dear old friends and a few new ones.

There’s nothing more important for The Grove than the placement of the tent. Thank you Larry and friends for setting out the tent twice. I’m still in contact with UPD trying to get the first tent back. Also, thank for helping tote food to said tent.

Thanks to my dearest OM gal Desi for helping to make it a fun time by bringing uncle Jim to the Grove. And thanks to Neil for the great ‘refreshments’. I enjoyed myself at your tent and the mimosa was awesome!

Oh yeah, if you want to get something great for your Grove tailgate, get with Spencer at the McAllister’s in Oxford. Great food at a great price.

In Other News

Of course, there is the COI ruling looming in the not so distant future for Ole Miss football. As usual the news is out about Matt Luke attending the COI hearing. As reported by Rebels247, coach Luke was requested to be at the hearing.

We know for a fact Matt Luke was not implicated in either of the NOAs which were issued. However, Luke is the head coach of the Rebels and I’d surmise he want’s to know what’s going on with the case. I know I certainly would.

The only real issue with the whole fiasco is Luke being required to be in Lexington, Kentucky the same week he is trying to prepare the Ole Miss football team for a California road trip. And it’s not just him, coaches Maurice Harris and Derrick Nix will also have to be there. This Rebel believes if Luke and Co. can make it to the COI hearing then so should Leo Lewis. Hotty Toddy!
