Ole Miss football had an open date and all of us had a chance to re-energize. Many Ole Miss football fans were left to man the remote control to try to find football to watch this past weekend.

Of course, it’s been a long week without Ole Miss football. For many of us it has been a case of bye-week blues. We’ve all waited patiently to have football and then just three games in we have an open date. It’s enough to drive the average Ole Miss football fan crazy.

All week I had prepared myself for not having the Rebels to watch. I kept telling myself we really needed the bye-week to regroup after the Cal loss, however Saturday came and I simply wasn’t ready. With remote in hand I set about my day trying to compensate for the absence of Ole Miss football. It wasn’t pretty.

Of course, my first game of the day was the train-wreck which is Tennessee football. I watched as they tried to give the game to UMass. Then next up was the Bama/Vandy game in which Bama completely dismantled the Mason/Dore defense. I was utterly shocked by the way Bama handled them. This didn’t fare well for my psyche considering Ole Miss travels to T-town this Saturday to take on the Tide.

After UT not covering the spread and Bama totally obliterating theirs, I was in need of a good night-cap game. That would be the meeting ‘between the hedges’ or the Bulldog Bowl. To say I am surprised at the outcome is an understatement. Oh I expected Georgia to win; I just didn’t expect them to dominate the mutts the way they did. Well at least it was a good end to a day of the bye-week blues.

Saturday Brings Apologies

Of course, Saturday brought apologies. Butch Jones had to apologize to Vol Nation for a win. Saban had to apologize to Mason for a blowout. And what would be icing on a Saturday with no Rebel football? An apology from Hugh Freeze.

The letter was originally published by Neal McCready on RebelGrove.com. Of course, there have been several college football fan-sites which have reported on it by now.

Naturally, I’ve had a chance to read the letter and I’ve also read a lot of comments on social media from Rebel nation about the apology. I guess Ole Miss football fans are split on the issue. I’ve seen some who believed it was too little too late while others simply stated they didn’t need an apology.

I feel like I fall into the latter. As a Ole Miss fan I really don’t need an apology although I do think he needed to do it for himself. I also can’t imagine myself having to publicly apologize for some of my own transgressions. However, I can see where we can fall short and have to make it right for ourselves first. Sadly, we live in a world where an apology is often demanded but never truly accepted.

Fantasy Football Woes

Play fantasy football they said. It will be fun they said. Yeah right, smh. Now three weeks into the NFL season and in two leagues I’m 0-3 and 1-2. After four weeks in the only collegiate league I’m in, 1-3. This is not only uncommon for me but is also a freak of nature. I don’t do poorly in fantasy leagues. I usually do really well and have even won a few. However, this is like a perfect storm.

Basically, if I want a player to do well all I have to do is have him on my bench. However, putting them in the line-up is like a kiss of death for their in-game performance. I know if my fantasy football season gets any worse I’ll be demanding an apology from somebody for destroying fantasy football for me.
