Ole Miss football recruiting was focused on the defensive side of the ball early into the 2018 class. An early commit for Ole Miss was Jonathan Hess.

As a Ole Miss football fan I’ve always been amazed by the talent level which Ole Miss has had at the linebacker position. Of course, when you think of the talented linebackers which have come through Oxford it automatically makes you think of a fin. Jonathan Hess will be throwing fins very soon.

How many times since Tony Fein have we seen the fin thrown when making a great play. The only think which makes a ‘fin’ more special is when it’s thrown by a dominant linebacker. You can roll back the clock on Ole Miss football and some of the greatest plays in Ole Miss history were made by a linebacker. Of course, Jonathan Hess will be making great plays as a Rebel.

If you look at Jonathan Hess you can see he comes from a new age of linebacker. He’s tall, he’s rangy and can always get to the ball. Hess is also very strong and can shed blocks.

At 6’5″ and 215 lbs Hess is the prototypical LB. Of course, you can expect with his height and speed he could play the flat very well on passing plays. However, Hess is also a run stopper and is always keyed on the ball.

Out of Vestavia Hills in Birmingham Hess also had offers from Air Force, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and TSBU State College. Of course, Hess stayed 100% Ole Miss thru everything Ole Miss went through and is a great player for the future of the Ole Miss defense.

Although Jonathan is listed as a linebacker he also has the height of a defensive end. Of course, there is a chance we could see Hess playing a hybrid LB/DE for coach Wesley McGriff. Coach McGriff has done an excellent job of signing a very talented team and Hess is a major part of this class.

Ready To Be A Rebel

Over the past few weeks considering transfers and transfer rumors it’s nice to see a great player want to be a Rebel. Naturally, Jonathan Hess is ready to be in Oxford and looking towards making Ole Miss a better football program. Of course, we are looking forward to seeing this young man on the field of the Vaught.

Next: No Bowling This Season!

I fully expect Ole Miss football fans to see something from Hess. Could we see another CJ Johnson? I really believe Hess will be an outstanding LB and may line up on the defensive line Regardless, One thing for sure is we are ready to see young men who want to be Rebels join the family. OHT wants to welcome Jonathan Hess to Oxford and the Ole Miss family. Hotty Toddy!
