The early signing period was a windfall of defensive talent for Ole Miss football recruiting. A huge focus on the defensive line made some of us ask, where are the line-backers?

This early signing period was full of surprises for Ole Miss football recruiting. While we were seeing defensive lineman after defensive lineman being targeted, we hadn’t seen many other positions focused on. Particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Of course, then the bottom fell out of line-backer heaven. And when it rains it pours.

Over the past few classes we hadn’t seen a lot of highly touted LBs being hard-targeted. Sure we had picked up one or two along the way but this class is very different. There are a number of really talented line-backers in this class who will find playing time immediately. Of course, OHT wants to introduce you to a really good one, Jacquez Jones.

Out of Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jacquez Jones is one of the best in the nation. At 6’0.5″ and 225 lbs Jacquez Jones is the prototypical SEC linebacker and is very talented at the outside position.

Jacquez Jones has the size, speed and talent to be a legitimate starter in the very near future. He will certainly see a significant spot on the depth chart immediately. Of course, when you watch his highlights you can see it for yourself.

Jacquez is a big-bodied line-backer who is very good at getting into the backfield on the blitz but is deadly in coverage. Of course, he has the build of a LB with the closing speed of a defensive back and good instinct.

Jones had offers from a multitude of top schools in the nation. Among the many he had were Tennessee, Michigan, West Virginia, LSU and Miss State. He was selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.

A Good One To Get

The line-backer position is one of the most important on the team. Of  course, line-backer is also a position where Ole Miss has seen great success in the past. However, as a whole, they haven’t been as solid as they should have been. Jacquez Jones is the type of line-backer who can play in the SEC and be a huge factor on the field.

Next: The Future For Ole Miss

Ole Miss football fans have wanted to see a resurgence of the Landshark D. Well it all began with a line-backer and that’s where the comeback begins as well. Of course, OHT is happy to introduce and welcome Jacquez Jones to the Ole Miss family. Thank you Jacquez for choosing Ole Miss and good luck as a Rebel. Hotty Toddy!
