Ole Miss football recruiting has been very successful with the 2018 class which has been dedicated to defense. This time the Rebels got a great safety.

The early signing period kicked off a boom in Ole Miss football recruiting. Of course, there has been a clear focus being placed on recruiting to shore up the Rebels defense. Ten of fourteen early signees are defensive players. We’ve seen a definite decline on the defensive side of the ball for the past few years. Head coach Matt Luke and this staff are dedicated to rebuilding the defense.

One particular problem with the defense has been pass coverage. It’s been a few years since we had a dominant secondary in Oxford. Of course, with this class there were a few surprises which began in the days leading up  to the early signing period. Several late commits shook things up for this class. One of those was Cameron White.

Cameron White is one of the best defensive backs in the State of Mississippi. At 6’1″ and 195 lbs he has the size and speed to be a dominant safety in the SEC. He’s strong and fast and is a genuine ball hawk who has incredible closing speed on plays.

Of course, just watch his highlights for yourself and you can see he is a definite impact player when he is on the field. White is very fast and is also very instinctive in coverage. He is also a very solid tackler in the open field and can make some huge hits.

White was selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. Although White also played running back in high school he was mainly being recruited to play safety at the next level.

Out of Madison Central high school White was highly sought after by a number of big time football programs. He received offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville and Southern Miss among others. Of course, White committed to Ole Miss on December 8th and inked on December 20th.

Secondary Gets New Life

Now with the addition of new DB coach Charles Clark we can expect to see a new and improved secondary. I can also see a player like Cameron White making an immediate impact in the depth chart in Clark’s secondary. Cameron is a big time play maker in the secondary and has the talent to help the Landshark secondary get back to where it was just a few years ago.

Next: The Future For Ole Miss

I believe Cameron White is a game changer for Ole Miss football. Of course, OHT is happy to profile Cameron White as part of the 2018 Ole Miss football recruiting class. We are also happy to introduce such a talented player to the Ole Miss family. Thank you Cameron for choosing Ole Miss and welcome to the Ole Miss family. Hotty Toddy!
