Of course there is a lot of excitement around Ole Miss football recruiting with top official visits being made just before National Signing Day.

Ole Miss football recruiting is abuzz with excitement. Of course, it’s that way with every major university this time of year. This recruiting season has already been made better with the early signing period in which many recruits inked early. The early signing period definitely helped Ole Miss with 14 recruits signing letters of intent to be Rebels. That was round one, now on to round two.

After the recruiting dead period the remaining recruits who didn’t sign are finishing up visits. In some cases it will be players which are still undecided however in most cases coaches are stuck with trying to flip commits. Of course, the last few weekends before NSD are considered to be the prime visit weekends outside of football season. That was the case with Ole Miss recruiting this past weekend in Oxford.

This past weekend welcomed a number of official visits on the University of Mississippi campus. When you think about how well Ole Miss did in the early signing period then we expect coach Matt Luke and Co to make a strong close to the 2018 recruiting season. Jumping from No. 75 to No.35 in the nation and snagging some late top prospects have helped set the pace heading into these late officials.

According to OMSpirit/247Sports, Ole Miss football recruiting had 12 official visits set for the weekend. Of course, these last two weeks are critical to the final success of this staff and overall class.

With the strong defensive focus which has already been placed on this class we know there were a number of defensive stars visiting Oxford this past weekend. Among those were Caleb Kelly and Fabien Lovett. Kelly is a OLB from Atlanta and Lovett is a DE out of Olive Branch. Other defensive targets included Jaylen Moody a ILB out of Conway, South Carolina and Cam’ron Jones a safety out of Mansfield, Texas.

Of course, there were also offensive targets on the Ole Miss campus this past weekend as well. Glenn Beal, a TE out of New Orleans was on campus as well as Michael Ezeike, a TE from Ontario, Canada. Also present over the weekend were 4-star prospects Tommy Bush and Marquez Ezzard. Bush is a WR out of Schertz, Texas while Ezzard is listed as a ATH out of Stockbridge, Georgia.

Other offensive targets on campus were tackles William Barnes and Nigel Brannon. Barnes is out of Apopka, Florida while Brannon, a Memphis commit, is out of Oklahoma City. Also taking official visits were 4-star OT Richard Gouraige out of Tampa, Florida and OG Ed Montilus of Apopka, Florida. Gouraige is a Florida commit.

Expecting To Close Strong

Many Ole Miss football fans believe head coach Matt Luke and his staff will make a strong closing statement on National Signing Day. We have every right to be optimistic. Matt Luke and this staff have done an excellent job with recruiting so far. Of course, it’s easy to see why expectations are so high. The next two weeks could prove to be exciting for Ole Miss football recruiting.

Next: The Future For Ole Miss
