The 2018 Ole Miss football recruiting class picked up a huge commitment from a Alabama linebacker after he took his official Rebels visit this weekend.

Things got much better for Ole Miss football and the 2018 recruiting class this weekend. Ole Miss had some of their top targets on campus for official visits. Of course, official visit weekends just before National Signing Day are always a huge event for both the players and the program. Recruiting is hard and heavy and can pay huge dividends when it comes to getting that special player.

Such was the case this weekend when Ole Miss got a commitment from Kevontae’ Ruggs of Montgomery, Alabama. Connections between players make a huge difference on visits and this weekend Ruggs was joined by corner-back JaKorey Hawkins. Hawkins is a teammate of Ruggs from Robert E Lee High School in Montgomery. Of course, Hawkins has been a hard commit for the Rebels since late October.

When we say this is a huge commitment for Ole Miss football recruiting we aren’t kidding. Ruggs brother, Henry Ruggs III, is a currently a freshman wide receiver for the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Let’s take a closer look at our latest commit.

Listed at 6’4″ and 210 lbs Kevontae’ Ruggs is rated a 3-star by Rivals.com with a Rivals-ranking of 5.7. He is rated as the 15th best recruit in Alabama. In his last two high school seasons Ruggs had 136 tackles with 6 TFL. He also had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 2 INTs. Of course, Ruggs played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-star Game.

Kevontae’ Ruggs had 12 offers which included Alabama, Texas A&M, Penn State and Louisville. Many of the major recruiting websites had Ruggs committing to Alabama. Of course, with his brother playing there it seemed to be a lock as a crystal ball prediction.

Ruggs is tall, quick and very talented at the linebacker position. Of course, with the size and speed to play outside on the SEC level and could be an immediate contender to start. Check out his highlights for yourself and you can see this was a huge get for Ole Miss football recruiting and the 2018 class.

Luke And Staff Closing Strong

Honestly, very few of us expected this class to turn out this good. However, now many Ole Miss football fans are pleasantly surprised by the job this staff has done. Head coach Matt Luke and his staff have really shown they can recruit top talent. Of course, Kevontae’ Ruggs is a prime example of the effort this staff has put into the 2018 recruiting class.

Next: On The Recruiting Trail!

With one weekend left before National Signing Day we can be sure this staff will be working even harder to get the top talent.
