No.9 Ole Miss baseball showed up big in game three against Tulane and blew open the game in the 6th inning and pick up the series sweep.

After clinching the series Saturday Ole Miss baseball (7-0) had something to prove Sunday against Tulane. Tulane is a well-coached and talented team and could easily have been a trap game for the Rebels. Of course the Rebels would be relying on a stout pitching performance from James McArthur and power offense.

Tulane got on the board in the top of the first and led 1-0 thru the top of the 4th. Ole Miss tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 4th. Tulane added another run in the 5th to take back a 2-1 lead. However, Ole Miss blew open the game in the 6th with 5 runs to take the 6-2 lead. Tulane added a lone run in the 8th but it wouldn’t be enough and the Rebels took the 6-3 win.

On The Mound

More from Ole Miss Baseball

Junior right-hander James McArthur took his spot on the mound as the regular Sunday starter for coach Mike Bianco. McArthur went for 5.1 innings of duty and allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits.Freshman right-hander Justin Fowler entered for McArthur in the 6th and went 1 complete inning allowing 1 hit.

Junior right-hander Greer Holston entered in the 7th and pitched .2 innings to finish out the frame. Senior Will Stokes of West Lauderdale took the mound in the 8th and went for 1 complete inning. Stokes allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits. Of course, junior right-hander Dallas Woolfolk entered the game in the 9th and closed out the Green Wave for the save.

So far thru 7 games we’ve seen a variety of pitching scenarios involving coach Bianco’s bullpen. This a very solid group of arms for Ole Miss baseball. As long as they continue to pitch well and stay healthy this team could be very good. Of course, we always know Bianco is going to have a great pitching staff.

At The Plate

There were 5 Rebels hitters who combined to score 6 runs on 8 hits. Sophomore Thomas Dillard led all Rebels going 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Dillard also scored 2 runs. Senior Will Golsan and sophomore Grae Kessinger both had 2 for 4 days. Golsan added 2 RBI while each player scored a run.

Also in on the action at the plate was sophomore Cooper Johnson who went 1 for 4. Johnson had the big shot of the day when he cranked a 3-run homer in the 6th inning. Freshman Tyler Keenan was 1 for 2 on the afternoon.

As long as this team can continue to find offensive production the Rebels should be in good shape. However, we do want to see the emergence of the rest of the batting order. Of course, with the pitching coach Mike Bianco has a little offense can go a long way to finding wins like it did against Tulane Sunday.
