Ole Miss softball was back in action in midweek games against Central Arkansas and Belmont at the Ole Miss Softball Complex in Oxford.

After a road series at LSU this past weekend where Ole Miss softball took one game to avoid the sweep the Rebels were back in action. Ole Miss had two non-conference games in Oxford against Central Arkansas and Belmont. The Rebels needed to bounce back big time and these two games would give the Rebels a chance to get back on track.

Tuesday night the Rebels hosted Central Arkansas. After a scoreless 1st inning Central Arkansas got on the board with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd. The Rebels didn’t waste any time responding and added 6 runs in the bottom of the second to take the 6-2 lead. Central Arkansas answered with 1 run in the top of the 3rd to cut the Rebels lead to 6-3 but the Rebels weren’t finished. The Rebels added 1 run the bottom of the 4th and 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to puch the lead to 9-3 and finished out with the win.

The Rebels pitching staff was once again on cue the entire game and limited Central Arkansas to just 3 hits. Of course, Ole Miss softball was able to produce at the plate and it resulted in the 9-3 Tuesday night win. Naturally we’ll look at the game by the numbers.

UCA By The Numbers

More from Ole Miss Softball

Freshman right-hander Ava Tillmann drew the start in the circle against UCA. Tillman went 3.0 innings and allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits. Tillmann had 2 BB. Freshman Anna Borgen entered in the 4th and allowed no hits.

At the plate there were 10 Rebels who exploded for 12 hits with 2 Rebels having multiple hit games. Red-shirt sophomore Autumn Gillespie went 2 for 3  while junior Kylan Becker went  went 2 for 4. Both players each had 1 RBI. Junior Celeste Wood, sophomore Kaylee Horton and senior Paige McKinney all went 1 for 3 at the plate. Horton had 2 RBI while McKinney had 1 RBI.

Senior Elantra Cox and freshman Ally Mena both went 1 for 2. Senior Alex Schneider, junior Brittany Finney and sophomore Dylinn Stancil each went 1 for 1 at the plate. Freshman Amanda Roth had 1 RBI. When Ole Miss softball gets production at the plate they are tough to beat. This game was a perfect example of exactly what this line-up is very capable of. Of course, the Rebels would have to face Belmont on Wednesday night.

Belmont Game

After a scoreless 1st frame the Rebels got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 3 runs. The Rebels added to more runs in the bottom of the 5th to extend their lead to 5-0. Behind shut-down pitching from the Ole Miss softball pitching staff the Rebels succeeded in getting the 5-0 win.

Of course, Belmont is a good team and for Ole Miss softball to get the midweek win was very significant. When you consider the Rebels were able to get consecutive wins in midweeks then they seem to be getting their swagger back. For now we’ll look at the Belmont win by the numbers.

By The Numbers

On Wednesday evening junior Brittany Finney drew the start in the circle for the Rebels. Finney went for a complete 7.0 innings and allowed no runs on 5 hits. Finney had 8 Ks and 1 BB. Against Belmont Brittany Finney once again proved shut-down pitching can go a long way towards a big win.

At the plate there were 6 Rebels who combined for 7 hits. Senior Elantra Cox had a multiple hit game going 2 for 3. Juniors Kylan Becker, Brittany Finney and senior Paige McKinney all went 1 for 2 in the game. McKinney had 1 RBI. Red-shirt sophomore Autumn Gillespie and junior Celeste Wood each went 1 for 3 at the plate. Senior Alex Schneider and freshman Amanda Roth each had 1 RBI.
