Ole Miss softball was back in action  Wednesday evening as they hosted Louisiana Monroe at the Ole Miss Softball Complex in Oxford.

Coming off a weekend series loss against Miss State Ole Miss softball (21-18, 5-13) was once again needing to have a huge midweek win to stay on track. The Rebels did take the final game against the Bulldogs but would now have to host ULM (23-18, 9-9) at home in Oxford. ULM was coming off a midweek 18-2 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Wednesday night the Rebels wasted no time getting cranked up against the Warhawks. After a scoreless first frame, the Rebels scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. With the score 5-0 the Rebels added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to extend the lead to 7-0. The Rebels held ULM scoreless for the duration of the game and won 7-0.

Ole Miss softball has shown what capable pitching and offensive production can accomplish. However, the Rebels have failed to produce on a consistent basis. Of course, a mid-major midweek is not the SEC so for now we look at Wednesdays win by the numbers.

By The Numbers

More from Ole Miss Softball

Senior right-hander Kaitlin Lee drew the start in the circle for the Rebels. Lee went 4.0 innings and allowed just 1 hit while tossing 3 Ks. Freshman left-hander Anna Borgen entered in the 5th and went for 2.0 innings allowing no hits. Borgen had 1 K. Sophomore right-hander Morgan Bruce entered in the 7th and finished out the circle for the Ole Miss softball pitching staff. Bruce went 1.0 innings and allowed no hits while chalking up 2 Ks.

At The Plate

Wednesday night 8 Rebels combined for 11 hits while 3 Rebels had multiple hit games against solid ULM pitching. Leading all Rebels were always clutch sophomores Kaylee Horton and Autumn Gillespie who both went 2 for 2. Horton had 2 RBI.

Seniors Bry Castro and Alex Schneider and junior Izzy Werdan all went 1 for 1. Castro had 2 RBI. Senior Paige McKinney went 2 for 3 while freshman Amanda Roth went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. Senior Elantra Cox went 1 for 4 and had 1 RBI. It is believed this team has overcome the mid-season lag and are beginning to get in a final stretch groove. Of course, we have to wait and see if the Rebels are back in their comfort zone which is solid pitching and plate production.
