Ole Miss baseball couldn’t make it four wins in row over the Auburn Tigers and dropped their first game in the SEC Tourney on Wednesday.

Ole Miss baseball (42-15) opened the tourney with the Auburn Tigers (39-19) who beat Kentucky in the opening round on Tuesday. The Rebels were coming into the tourney off their final series win over Bama and a SEC West division title. The Rebels were also bringing a series sweep of Auburn into the SEC Tourney as well. However, the No.2 seed Rebels couldn’t make it four in a row over the Tigers.

The Rebels jumped on the board early with two runs in the bottom of 3rd as a result of a throwing error by the Tigers. Ole Miss maintained the 2-0 lead thru the bottom of the 6th. However, the Tigers took the 3-2 lead in the top of the 7th. Auburn added 2 more runs in the top of the 8 to extend the Tigers lead to 5-2. Ole Miss closed the gap at 5-3 with 1 run in the bottom of the inning. Auburn slammed the door shut on the Rebels with a 4 run shot in the 9th to take the 9-3 win.

Of course, it may not be the outcome we had hoped for but the Rebels still have a lot left to play for in Hoover as they play Georgia in the elimination game on Thursday. For now we look at the loss to Auburn by the numbers.
