With the 2018 Ole Miss football season finally coming into view OHT has been looking at the different position groups and are grading each based on depth.

Now that Ole Miss baseball season is behind us OHT has been looking at the different position groups in terms of depth. So far we’ve looked at the offensive position groups and are finishing up on the defensive groups. We’ve looked at the defensive line and the linebackers and now we are checking out the Rebels secondary.

Like the other defensive positions we want to see significant improvement in the secondary. There were a number of games last season where we saw moments the secondary broke down in coverage and gave up big plays. This season will we see improvement? Well, we have to believe the secondary will be much better in 2018. This is a deep group and grades out with the best of them.

Looking At The Roster

When we say this group is a deep group it isn’t an understatement. As of now there are 17 Rebels at the defensive back position. That is a lot for one position group. There is high level of experience and talent as well so it gives us a positive look at the depth.

Returning for 2018 are seniors Ken Webster, Zedrick Woods, Javien Hamilton, CJ Moore, Cam Ordway and Kwesie Fountain. Joining are Myles Hartsfield, Jaylon Jones, Montrell Custis, Jerry Johnson and Art Mitchell. Sophomores DD Bowie and CJ Miller both looked good in the spring and are both available for action this fall. They will be joined by red-shirt freshmen Kam White, AJ Harris and Ty Rocconi.

New Faces At DB

One exciting new player at DB is JUCO transfer Vernon Dasher who was available in the spring. Dasher played outside linebacker in junior college is very fast and also very physical. Another new face  is former Rebels DB great and new assistant coach Charles Clark. Clark brings a wealth of knowledge to the DB position and should help this position group in 2018. With this kind of depth, experience and talent we should see this group be much better.

Defensive Secondary Grade: A+

Next: Season Predictions!

This is a position group to be excited about in the 2018 Ole Miss football season. For there to be success this season on defense will rely largely on well this group does. It should be a much better year than 2017. Good luck to all these Rebels players in the upcoming season. Hotty Toddy!
