With the Ole Miss football season now less than a month away OHT is counting down the days with this edition of Grove Grinder.

Ole Miss football is just around the corner and the excitement is beginning to build throughout Rebel Nation. Of course, it’s never hard to get excited over the beginning of the college football season. It’s always easy to mark the beginning of football season with the beginning of fall practice and practice in Oxford has begun.

The Rebels began practice August 2nd in preparation for their season opener on September 1st. The Rebels will open their season on the road against Texas Tech in Houston, Texas. Of course, the game has the potential to be a barn-burner between the two high-powered offenses and questionable defense for both teams. It should be a great game and we’ll finally be able to see our Rebels in action.

Much To Discuss

Naturally there is much discuss heading into the 2018 Ole Miss football season. The message boards and groups of Rebels scattered over social media have been lit up with opinion over a number of topics. Everything thing from the ‘Great White’ uniforms to questions over defensive depth. Of course, we are all anxious to get the season underway and see the answers to our questions revealed.

When it comes to the uniforms the Rebels will be wearing I happen to like the look. I agree with Ole Hotty Toddy contributor Jim Shute when it comes to my opinion on the uniform. Jim stated, “I don’t care if the Rebels play in brown paper bags as long as they play well.” As true Rebels fans this should be all of our opinions on the matter. Still, I do realize some fans feel as though Ole Miss football is skipping more tradition.

More From Practice

The Rebels practiced Friday morning and the media was allowed to be there as spectators. Per David Johnson of OMSpirit the media was allowed to view the practice for only one hour so they were limited as to what they were able to see. However, according to Johnson this Tuesday’s practice will be completely open to the media and there will be more known about how well this Ole Miss football team has developed from the spring.

From the sounds of things head coach Matt Luke has kept the Rebels isolated over the weekend. However there is loose talk about practice which has leaked out. According to Johnson once again there is word that Isaiah Woullard had been very impressive and is competing at a decent spot on the Rebels depth chart. Johnson went on to say that Jordan Ta’amu has also been impressive. Johnson said Ta’amu had been “calm, cool and collected” in his targeting of his receivers.
