Ole Miss Football: Jordan Wilkins Making Run For Colts Starter
As Ole Miss football fans we are drawn to the success of or former players who are in the NFL and in time Jordan Wilkins will be a great one.
When it comes to former Ole Miss football players at the professional level we always want to see them succeed. Over the years there have certainly been a lot of former Rebels who have found successful pro careers in the NFL and CFL. Each year as the NFL Draft occurs we hope we hear our favorite Rebels names called, we follow them through the training camps and we watch to see how they fare in the NFL Preseason.
2018 seems to be a good year for rookies in the NFL and some former Rebels are making their way thru the ranks. One former Rebel Ole Hotty Toddy has been keeping an eye on is Colts running back Jordan Wilkins. Wilkins was selected in the 5th round as the 169th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Wilkins who entered the NFL draft coming off an impressive senior season also had an impressive Colts training camp and has looked impressive in the preseason.

After two preseason games it is easy to see what drew the Colts to him in the draft. In his NFL preseason debut Wilkins was solid for a rookie running-back seeing his first real action as a pro. In preseason game one against the Seahawks Wilkins played a total of 25 snaps with 18 coming on offense and 7 coming on special teams. The Colts are obviously wanting to see as much of Wilkins as they can in the preseason.
So far the Colts rookie has done well with 6 carries for 21 yards and a critical fumble recovery in game one. Wilkins also iced the 19-17 Colts win with a key first down. Against the Ravens Monday night Wilkins had 7 carries for 26 yards on the ground and 2 receptions out of the backfield for 18 yards. Wilkins did get the ball stripped at the goal line but it was recovered for a TD by the Colts.
With two more preseason games left Wilkins is set for even more playing time. The Colts are suffering depth issues at the running back position and Wilkins easily could find himself running out of the backfield as a starter. We all know if Jordan continues to get touches he is going to break some long runs. The touches could become significantly greater now with Marlon Mack out with a hamstring issue and Robert Turbin suspended for the Colts first four games. Give Jordan Wilkins a chance and he’s going to be the starter in Indy.
Ole Miss football fans can be sure we will see more of Jordan as the Colts host the 49ers this coming Saturday. We wish Jordan Wilkins and all of our NFL Rebels the very best of luck in the remainder of the NFL preseason and a great season. Hotty Toddy!
